The history of Gandhinagar dates back to 13th century when King Pethasinh of Pethapur, ruled over Shertha town which became the battle ground latter on by the Sultanate of Patan. But with the bifurcation of Bombay state into the present states, Gujarat and Maharashtra in 1960, Gandhinagar became the capital of Gujarat.
